YouTube uncovers professional funnel push
YouTube revealed its lengthy-looked forward to plan Friday to produce a suite of channels filled with star-studded programming from premium content companies, marking parent company Google's bid to transform the tv business as cable did decades ago. Bing is likely to spend 100s of huge amount of money to produce as much as 100 channels, the first that would launch the following month but continue moving out through 2012. Inside a blog publish around the YouTube site, global mind of content close ties Robert Kyncl charged the channels as originating from "well-known personas and content producers in the TV, film, music, news, and sports fields." Programming partners vary from production the likes of Electus and BermanBraun to well-known brands such as the Onion, Wall Street Journal and WWE. Some channels may have celebrity participation including Tony Hawk, Jay-Z, Ashton Kutcher, Rainn Wilson, Amy Poehler, Deepak Chopra and Shaquille O'Neal. Brands already well-rooted online is going to be symbolized too, including Smosh and Machinima. After building its business on the rear of amateur uploads if this first released six years back, the brand new venture marks the most important change in YouTube's strategy since Google acquired it in 2006. By allying itself with pedigreed producers, YouTube is wishing to obtain a bigger chunk of advertising dollars which have evaded the website. Google's technique is to produce formal channels of programming targeted at niche audiences much in the manner cable contacted the broadcast business using the launches of MTV and CNN within the eighties. Word from the startup company continues to be circulating for much of the season as Google has met with auspices throughout Hollywood to draft talent on sides from the camera. YouTube is set on raising CPMs because of its content, which will need closing the space between your fifteen minutes of viewing time daily spent normally online versus. 5-hour average TV instructions. The organization can also be wishing to obtain more traction using the talent blitz than YouTube has already established around the certification side. YouTube already experienced an incorrect begin with the launch of the movie store 2 yrs ago which had little top-shelf content. Captured the organization relaunched the store having a chest in excess of 3,000 movie game titles from Warner Bros., The new sony Pictures and Universal Pictures for $3 or $4 a pop, but sources have indicated there is little uptake. YouTube can also be coming late to a game title that other new-media titans from Yahoo to Hulu have loved a significant jump, consuming talent that belongs to them inside a bid to unlock more dollars from Madison Avenue. The announcement can come only a next day of the organization revealed particulars of the approaching upgrade to Google TV, something melding TV and Web video that battled if this released this past year. The YouTube original channels will end up among the additional features Bing is counting onto help refresh Google TV. By placing YouTube original channels onto Google TV, it can help Google counter critique the service didn't have compelling content options--a disadvantage magnified because the broadcast systems blocked use of their programming soon after launch. Google TV may also be enhanced with a simplified interface, a brand new application that enables customers to find video across both TV and also the Internet, and the development of the Android marketplace. The upgrade will require effect in a few days on Logitech iterations of Google TV, then The new sony models later around. Contact Andrew Wallenstein at andrew.wallenstein@variety.com

Justin recently sat down with Access Hollywoods Billy Bush while promoting his new Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe, and chatted about Selenas new furry friend. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman talk Paranormal Activity 3
Filmmakers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman seemed the perfect choice to shoot the handheld horror Paranormal Activity 3, given their previous work on Facebook documentary Catfish. That choice paid off handsomely this weekend when the sequel - which cost just $5m to make - took an estimated $54m at the US box office. That makes it the biggest horror opening of all time and the biggest October opening ever in the US.So would Joost and Schulman consider Paranormal Activity 4? Studio Paramount is already talking up the possibility of a fourth film."There are definitely some unanswered questions at the end of this. We'll see how it goes and how people react," Schulman told Fangoria."These movies are sort of a response to the audience's response, and a lot of it is built around what the audience wants. So if it feels like there are enough unanswered questions for us to come up with more mythology, then we'll take a stab at it."The duo are currently working on another low-budget horror-thriller set in NY City."About all we can say is that it would be half found footage, and it's about two teens in NY City. It would be pretty unique," Schulman added. As for their work on Paranormal Activity 3, the filmmakers say they considered using VHS to give it the right look and feel for something shot 1988."But the studio wasn't really interested in releasing a 4x3 analogue movie," said Schulman with a laugh."We tested it, but it got pretty tiring to watch after a while. Everybody's got an HD TV in their house, and movies look so great now - watching a VHS image would get pretty old fast," Joost confirmed. That problem was solved by using a filter on top of HD footage. However, many scenes show the camera operator in the mirror and for authenticity he couldn't be holding a HD camera."So we took a small HD lipstick camera and put it down the barrel of an old VHS camera, so when Dennis is taping himself and it looks completely like a VHS camera, it's recording to an HD chip inside," Schulman explained.

Moammar Gadhafi's 1989 Interview With Barbara Walters Released by ABC News (Video)
ANDREAS SOLARO/AFP/Getty Images In light of Moammar Gadhafi's Oct. 20 death, ABC News has dipped into its vault to post one of the network's more unique interviews with the Libyan dictator. At the height of his power, in January 1989, Barbara Walters traveled to Tripoli for 20/20 sit-down interview Gadhafi. They met in a brightly-colored tent where the then 59-year-old broadcaster called Gadhafi "crazy." STORY: Moammar Gadhafi's Death: What Hollywood Is Saying "He was crazy like a fox," Walters said of their meeting, in a Thursday interview with George Stephanopoulos. "He thought that he was going to be the king of the whole Arab world." In the original clip, which ABC News has promoted heavily in the last 24 hours, Walters described her first impressions of Gadhafi. "The interview was done in a tent he uses as an office," she said. "He had an interpreter, though he speaks some English and seemed to understand my questions -- though he rarely looked me in the eye." VIDEO: Gadhafi's Death Predicted By 80s Sitcom Walters did get a laugh out of Gadhafi at one point, when she noted that his English was better than his interpreter's. Still, the segment remains a largely uncomfortable window into Gadhafi's feelings towards America at the time, including his particular distaste for President Ronald Reagan. "In my point of view, America is made up of two parts," he said. "That is, the American people and the American administration ruling it... The American people, they are completely ignorant of the world completely and they know nothing about the outside world. And unfortunately during the recent years the American administration become more interested with the outside world than with the internal problems." STORY: CNN, MSNBC, Fox Air Gruesome Cell Phone Video of Dead Gadhafi Gadhafi insisted that he understood the American people "very well," making a special point of calling out the media as "Zionists" intent on presenting a false impression of him. "They will show pictures of me next to skulls, to dead bodies," he said. "They are not reflecting the true picture of me." video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player George Stephanopoulos ABC News Barbara Walters 20/20 Moammar Gadhafi

REVIEW: Gorgeous Doc Bombay Beach Seems Serious But Boosts Questions of Exploitation
Where does appreciation finish and exploitation begin? Gorgeous and disquieting, the documentary Bombay Beach wobbles involving the two as being a beginner gymnast on her behalf account first attempt round the balance beam. On a single for yellows, it’s a poetic, freeform study from the lives from the handful of in the people from negligence the title, situated with the Salton Sea inside the La desert. Alternatively, it’s an uncomfortable fetishization in the community’s outsider status, based on poverty, by location by an failure or disinclination to exist elsewhere. Israeli-born director Alma Har’el, who evolves from the background of music videos and ads, doesn’t just get pleasure from this abundance of scenic, decaying Americana, she shapes it into choreographed dance interludes while using subjects, who twirl outdoors their mobile houses and don circus masks to cavort inside an outdoors event event gazebo. It’s a bit of whimsy as pretty and problematic since the film generally. There’s without doubt from the products came Har’el to Bombay Beach’s setting, that's almost otherworldly and ripely film. Round the side of the inland sea, the remote, half-abandoned community has the design of several kids of some apocalyptic event. The film starts with old marketing footage from decades ago providing the region’s future since the next California paradise (“The future is becoming!”), a place for resorts and entertainment along with a classical type of escape, before cutting for the fallen reality, the pair of dilapidated houses and firms remaining today, and progressively finding its approach to the three figures it'll follow — the senior citizens Red-colored-colored, who lives inside the Slab City trailer encampment and can manage bootlegging discount cigarettes Benny Parrish, a boy who’s been recognized with bpd and CeeJay Thompson, a black teen from L.A. who’s been shipped towards the region to flee the gang violence that mentioned the presence of his cousin. Part of exactly why is Bombay Beach such prime fuel for arguments about hipster appropriation is its remarkably chic pedigree. Numerous Har’el’s most well-known and acclaimed music videos are for Zach Condon and also the band Beirut, original music from whom figures plainly round the soundtrack. You will discover also tunes from Bob Dylan, plus an passionate endorsement from Terry Gilliam embellishes the very best the condition website. There’s nothing malicious inside the film’s gaze — I have undoubtedly that Har’el has sincerely fallen deeply deeply in love with her subjects as well as the region — but that doesn’t negate the way a film doesn’t observe, it palpably imposes a thesis upon these people, in regards to the crumbled American dream, in regards to the nobility of existence round the edges, together as material with an idea with techniques that talks more for the filmmaker instead of who they may be. Which kind of obligation a documentarian must their subjects could be the center from the interesting if endless debate, and Bombay Beach regardless does not have aims being any type of traditional nonfiction film, but there’s still something squirmy within the vision, the means by so it constantly flirts with condescending regarding the it could lift up. Bombay Beach does include some memorable imagery, a variety of it shot toward dusk when the desert has cooled then when the washed-out colors in the landscape blend into the huge sky as well as the reflecting water. CeeJay and also the friend noodle around in the golfcart trying to find something to accomplish and speaking in regards to the future — he hopes to acquire a football scholarship, but uncle miracles a sum happen if he just continued to be put and increased to become bum. “I’d find we’d take proper proper care of you, no homo,” CeeJay notifies him. Red-colored-colored and also the pals, many wizened and shirtless, have a very cookout in Slab City, while you lady massages a bowl of limp, grey lettuce. “That can be a salad,” her friend declares. Nevertheless it’s to little Benny the film’s heart goes — an attractive kid who seems to reside in only half nowadays as well as the relaxation of occasions within the own imagination, Benny’s around the regimen of Ritalin and Lithium together with other meds that sometimes leave him even dreamier than is his norm, despite the fact that his mother frets of those undesirable effects she also abides with what the doctor notifies her, not receiving almost every other choice. She and her husband were built with a fondness for departing explosives plus an extreme avoidance of housekeeping — the first sort showed up them in jail, the 2nd got their kids removed for a while, and he or she’s clearly trying her most difficult to parent according to rules she’s required to train herself. (When she notifies her earliest daughter she was 15 when she first grew to become pregnant, the woman states “I finally know very well what age you're” — it’s a puzzle she’s been exploring for a while when faced with deflections.) We don’t start to see the problems Benny’s triggered that introduced to his diagnosis, and also the drugged up daze and heavy plea to his teacher that “I hope I behave” are extra heartbreaking because of it. Benny’s playing within the desert around the beached ship or possibly within an illusion sequence together with a fire place truck would be the only moments he seems fully themselves, and so they’re minimal effective and several magnetic cases of Bombay Beach’s Harmony Korine-esque tributes to the thought of the attractive freaks.

Joel Silver Meets The Envoy
Producing spec action screenplayHollywood may seem to be predominantly about pre-existing intellectual properties and sequels these days, but it's still possible to sneak through an original project occasionally. For proof, look to Robert Archer Lynn, who has just sold his spec screenplay The Envoy to Warner Bros, and seen action-meister Joel Silver attached as producer.According to THR, The Envoy revolves around a diplomatic courier whose routine delivery becomes more stressful than anticipated. It turns out that his diplomatic package contains stolen intelligence about a terrorist attack on America, prompting a race across Vienna as he tries to evade bad guys and get to the US embassy unscathed and intact.Lynn was a contestant on the 2003 season of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's Project Greenlight on HBO, a competition series giving budding filmmakers the chance at their first big break. He didn't win, but has since written and directed a handful of low-budget independent films. Most star his frequent collaborator David Alford. Prisoner (2007) scored Elias Koteas. The Envoy marks his first big studio sale, however, and with no director yet attached, Lynn may well have his fingers crossed that his involvement doesn't end there. Silver and his producing partner Andrew Rona, meanwhile, will be hoping it can be shaped into another Euro-flavoured hit like their recent Unknown...

Presidents Clinton and Bartlet Watch 'The Way' Together
Last night, a well-to-do crowd of generous NYers enjoyed a rare opportunity to hang out with two presidents of the United States: Bill Clinton and Josiah Bartlet. The occasion was a charity screening of 'The Way,' starring Martin Sheen -- who played Bartlet on 'The West Wing' from 1999 to 2006 -- and directed by Sheen's son Emilio Estevez. Clinton, who was there to support the evening's beneficiary, The Walkabout Foundation, went out of his way to thank "my friend Martin Sheen, who when I left the White House became my president." (That's a George Bush joke, for those playing at home.) "I try to show the appropriate deference." 'The Way' follows the journey of a bereaved father (Sheen) along the Camino de Santiago, a medieval pilgrimage route from France to Spain that every year attracts tens of thousands of motivated pedestrians. It's not the kind of movie you'd make if box-office success were anywhere on your list of priorities, but those who do sign up will enjoy watching Sheen, who so famously trekked into the heart of darkness in 'Apocalypse Now,' pursue the path of something like salvation, and the Super 16 footage of the Camino is something humanity can be glad to possess. As Estevez put it, after lamenting our age of cynicism, "This is a movie that invites you to climb higher on the tree. The view is better, the fruit is sweeter." Still, just as the movie persistently questions its characters' reasons for taking their journey, an audience member has to ask: Why make this movie? The answer came during the post-screening Q&A, when Estevez shared a family anecdote. A few years back, Martin Sheen and his grandson Taylor Levi Estevez (Emilio's son) walked the Camino, and along the way Taylor fell in love with an inn-keeper's daughter, whom he went on to marry. Upon his return, Martin told Estevez, "You've lost a son on the Camino, and if you want to see him you should consider making a film there. And while you're considering that, why don't you write that film for me to star in." Now it all made sense! But there were other mysteries to ponder, too. Why Bill Clinton? Why the Walkabout Foundation, a very young organization whose very, very ambitious long-term goal is to supply wheelchairs to every one of the 100 million people around the world who need them? These answers eventually emerged as well. Walkabout was founded by siblings Luis and Carolina Gonzalez-Bunster, whose father, Rolando, roomed with Clinton during their freshman year at Georgetown. Rolando is also the one who forged a connection with Estevez, after introducing himself on an airplane to ask what Estevez and his father had been doing making a movie on the Camino. Once it emerged that Luis had been the first person ever to make the pilgrimage in a wheelchair, the magic started to happen. "We would not be here tonight if Rolando had not taken that opportunity," Estevez observed. "Tonight is one of the miracles." Click here to donate to the Walkabout Foundation. Watch Charlize Theron Try to Ruin a Marriage in Sweats in the Young Adult Trailer
This morning, we revisited Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman and this afternoon, we get to see the Academy Award-winning actress as a suburban ice princess who returns to her hometown in sweats to lie to Hampton Inn employees, blatantly flirt with her married high school sweetheart and drink around the clock. Click through to see the first trailer for Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody’s next joint venture, Young Adult. All I’ve ever wanted to see onscreen is a sneering, sweatsuit-wearing, Diet Coke-swilling heroine with complete disregard for societal concerns and Charlize Theron appears to be just that in Young Adult. The comedy drama follows Theron’s character, a teen lit author, as she returns home to hook her married high school crush (Patrick Wilson looking a lot like Chris Pratt). Only instead, she forges an unlikely bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) in dimly lit alleyways. Unfortunately for everyone, Young Adult won’t hit theaters until December 9. VERDICT: Honestly, this trailer had me at the Hampton Inn establishing shot. Someone start the countdown… [via ComingSoon.net]
